Exchange Program
Our Exchange Program is designed to give the exchange participant a cultural and professional experience. The cultural aspect is the cultural immersion of the exchange participant in the host country through a variety of activities with the hosting chapter. The professional aspect revolves around the internship that the exchange participant is placed in.

AIESEC United States and your host country will provide you with the resources necessary to make your participation in the program a successful and fruitful experience. Below are the components of the Salaam Program that are integral to the participant's cultural and professional experience.
I. Cultural Preparation Seminar
Your sending AIESEC chapter will provide you with an overview of the cultural experience - from history, social norms, and religious practices to the local customs and common cuisines - in your host country. You will also be reminded of AIESEC's values and mission. This seminar will equip you with the necessary skills to present your culture to individuals from another culture.

II. Emergency Preparation Seminar
Your sending AIESEC chapter will check to make sure that you have completed all the necessary travel preparations. This will include (but not limited to):

- verification of your travel documents (passport, visa/work permit)
- verification of your emergency contact's information
- notification of travel insurance and health insurance options
- notification of travel risks and health regulations
- confirmation of your flight information
- contact information of your hosting chapter and AIESEC United States
- AIESEC United States' Exchange Participant Emergency Preparation Plan
- AIESEC's International Exchange Policies and Quality Standards (IXPQS)
III. Reception and Hosting by Local Chapter in Host Country
Typically, the host chapter will provide the following:

- assist you in securing your accommodations prior to your arrival
- airport pick-up and drop-off at your accommodations
- one reception event (depending on the local chapter, this may be in the form of a formal presentation about the host country or an informal gathering with other interns and local AIESEC members)
- orientation of company
- assistance with transportation on your first day of work
IV. Internship
The internship component of the Salaam Program will give you a real-life setting to further develop your leadership and professional skills, whether it is in an non-governmental organization or in a multinational company.
Internships are divided into four categories:
Technical Internship - The student has the opportunity to work in a company, NGO or organization and will spend the majority of his/her time working in areas related to information technology or engineering projects. These areas may include web development and management, software development and programming, system analysis and design, network management and database management. Technical skills, experience and expertise are required to participate in this type of internship.
Management Internship - The student has the opportunity to work in a company, NGO or other organization and will spend the majority of his/her time working in areas related to market evaluation and research, international marketing, advertising and public relations, project management.
Educational Internship - The student has the opportunity to work in a company, NGO, university, language school or organization and will spend the majority of his/her time working in areas related to general teaching/ trainings, linguistic teaching, cross cultural education.
Development Internship - The student has the opportunity to work in a NGO, high school or other organization and will spend the majority of his/her time working in areas related to community development issues. These areas may include children's rights, environmental issues, general and cross cultural education, rural development and entrepreneurship, HIV/AIDS issue.

The sending local chapter will provide you with an opportunity to share, discuss, and reflect on your experience abroad. This is also a time for you to give AIESEC United States your feedback on your exchange experience.
