Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I have to have American citizenship in order to apply for the Salaam Program?
A: No. Any person of any nationality/citizenship can apply to be part of the Salaam Program. However, some internships may only be looking for American citizens for technical reasons. Please check with the internship listing for specific citizenship requirements.
Q: When would I have to pay the program fees?
A: When you are notified of acceptance into the Salaam Program, your credit card (you will enter this information on the AIESEConline.net application form) will automatically be charged the Application Fee ($75). The Internship Match Fee ($425 or $675, depending on the type of internship: see Program Overview for details) will be charged to your credit card only when you have been successfully placed in an internship.
Q: Can I participate in the program if I have already graduated?
A: Yes. However, you must have earned your degree no more than two years prior to the start of the program.
Q: How long do the internships usually last?
A: This depends. Generally speaking, the Management and Technical internships are long-term (6 months or more), whereas the Development and Education internships are short-term (8 weeks or less). Please refer to the internship listings for the exact durations.
Q: Do I have to speak Arabic in order to be accepted into the Salaam Program?
A: We do not have a specific language requirement for our participants. However, a small number of internships do require interns to be proficient in Arabic, so please be sure to check the "Language Requirements" column of the internship listings. In short, the language requirement depends on the internships that you apply to.
Q: When do I actually have to commit to an internship that I have indicated interest in (i.e. the point of no return when I am not allowed to back out of the program)?
A: When you sign the contract (which is also referred to as "Acceptance Note"), in step number 6 of the Application Process.
